West Texas Strong Donation and Memorial Scholarship Fund
To our Guests,
On August 31st, West Texas was forever impacted by the shooting that killed 7 people and wounded 22 others. We want to offer our most heartfelt condolences to all the victims of this horrific tragedy. We are also thankful for the quick response of our local first responders who immediately put their lives on the line to protect our towns. While this senseless act deeply affected all who live here, we realized that our greatest strength is our community.
It is because of the goodness of our Kent Kwik and Avis Lube guests that we were able to raise close to $100,000 inside of our locations. As promised, our company is matching this donation, dollar for dollar, to bring the total to $200,000. We are also sincerely grateful for our association with Chevron, who generously matched our donation with an additional $100,000 to bring the grand total to $300,000.
Based off this $300,000 in funds, we are splitting $200,000 between the local first responder organizations: Odessa Police Department, Odessa Fire Department, Ector County Sheriffs Department, Midland Police Department, Midland Fire Department, and Midland County Sheriffs Department.
Furthermore with the other $100,000, we set up the “West Texas Strong Memorial Scholarship Program” in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the tragic events. The scholarship program will set aside funds for each of the children who lost a parent during the shooting to use when they are ready to attend college. Additionally, the program will grant three $2,500 college scholarships yearly to local students from Midland/Odessa starting in 2020.
We are immensely proud to be a West Texas owned and operated company and even more proud to stand with Chevron, our neighbors, family and friends to continue to support our community. The people of Odessa, Midland and the Permian Basin are empowered with strong hearts and giving souls. It is because of our guests that we are able to make this contribution to our community. Thank you again for supporting us in this cause.
