The Kent Companies Award $14,000 in College Scholarships to Team Members

The Kent Companies are proud to announce that the company will present 14 Team Members with $1,000 college scholarships at our corporate office on Thursday. All 14 Team Members worked for the company throughout the summer and are continuing their education this fall. The Team Members worked in Kent Kwik Convenience Stores, Kent Car Wash, Huddle House Restaurants, Baskin Robbins and Rustic Cafe. The scholarship recipients are from Odessa, Midland, Monahans and Haskell, TX.

The Kent Companies have been making West Texans lives easy since 1957. Now led and owned by the second generation, this family owned business still operates with the same attitude and spirit on which it was founded - hard work, dedication to our Guests and Team Members, and a never ending drive to be the best.

We believe in investing in our Team Members future, which is why education is so important to our company. Along with the $1,000 college scholarship, these Team Members are also eligible to receive tuition reimbursement and another $1,000 scholarship if they continue to work part-time throughout the semester.

Team Members provide incredible service to our guests every day, but we know their commitment to excellence extends far beyond our stores. Many Team Members work part- or full-time while also pursuing their education. Through our Team Member scholarships, our goal is to help these young leaders achieve their education dreams and create their own extraordinary futures.

Hannah Lee of Midland just graduated from Lee High School, now Legacy, and plans to attend Texas A&M University to major in biology.

“I think it really helps me with tuition a lot and so it helps me further my education,” Lee said.

Cameron Curry, a junior at Permian High School, worked at Baskin Robbins as did Hadley Hough, a sophomore at Compass Academy Charter School. Curry said he plans to attend Texas State University.

“I’m honored,” he said of the scholarship, “and it makes this year easier, specially paying for my dual credit classes …”

Hough said she wants to attend Baylor University and study psychology. “It’s exciting. I’m really grateful for it. It’s going to help out a lot going to the school that I want to (go to),” she said.

“We are really, really proud of these kids that we’ve had. It’s just an honor from our standpoint,” said Chairman and CEO Bill Kent.

The students say working for the company is a joy, and the scholarships are just the icing on the cake.

“I think the environment here is really nice, everyone’s really friendly so it’s a good first job for sure,” said scholarship recipient Lydia Lee.
